Hello all.
Yes, I know, I haven't posted in nearly 7 months, but well, life has kept me busy.
I started senior year on Friday (missing all my friends who left for college quite a lot!) with a messed up schedule. I was rather stressed out about it; I thought that I was going to have to drop some of my classes. But luckily it got ironed out by the middle of the day and the only class I had to drop was Ballet. I've put a simple version of first semester's schedule here:
A B
Mod 1 Free! Dance
Mod 2 Calculus Calculus
Mod 3 Brit Lit I Brit Lit I
Mod 4 Free! Religion, Media & TV
Mod 5 Econ H Econ H
Mod 6 Psych Psych
Mod 7 French 5H French 5H
Mod 8 Art Engineering
Mod 9 Art Engineering
Now to explain the spiders. [insert shivers here]
I walked into Advanced Studio on Friday, glad to see that quite a few of my friends were in the class. Q (our teacher) explained that we each had to write a non-specific noun on a piece of paper and fold it up. I wrote "circus performer" on mine (Yes, I really did, Trevor :9). We all put our papers in a bag and picked one out. Lo and behold, written on the paper was the one thing I have consistently disliked over my 17 years of life -- SPIDER. I swallowed hard as Q explained that we had to do 9 - 12 thumbnail sketches of our noun and then a 2D piece of art based on it. Needless to say, I was a bit unhappy at first. The thought of looking up these creatures on Google Images and drawing somewhat detailed sketches of them was not pleasant to me. But I've decided to challenge the spiders. I'll draw the lot of them, successfully and without fail. I will win this battle I am waging against these eight-legged foes!
I know, I know, that was a little much. But I've already done four sketches and, surprisingly, I'm kind of enjoying it. Spiders are kind of misunderstood -- they're quite interesting when you really read about them. I've attached a picture (above) of two of my sketches -- a red back spider (one of the most deadly in the world and a member of the black widow family) and an orange Vietnamese spider who seems to be raising its arm in question.
Ciao.
